Daniel Winterbottom
Daniel Winterbottom received his master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from Harvard University. He is currently an Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture and an Adjunct Professor of Architecture at the University of Washington and principle of Winterbottom Design, Inc., a landscape architecture and site planning firm. His professional and academic work focuses on sustainable design and restorative environments for those facing serious illnesses, particularly in healthcare settings. In 1995 he developed a design/build program, through which he and his students work with communities to design and build projects that provide amenities and address social of ecological concerns. Previous to joining the faculty at the UW he was in professional practice for eight years with SVR Design Company and the Portico Group, both in Seattle. He is the author of Wood in the Landscape (John Wiley & Sons, 2000) and is a Board member of American Community Gardening Association and a member of the American Society of Landscape Architecture. His work has been featured in the Seattle Times, Seattle PI, New York Times, Landscape Architecture magazine, Designer/Builder magazine and others. In 2001 he received the ‘Exceptional Service Merit Award’ fromCancer Lifeline, for his“Healing Garden Project” with UW Department of Landscape Architecture.
